Hugo isn't sure where the elevator stopped, so with a bit of effort he's able to pry open the door on the 8th floor to peer down the shaft. If he shines a light down there, he can guesstimate that the elevator is stopped at approximately where the 5th floor would be if it existed.
There's also something off about the elevator and if Hugo watches for long enough, he'll notice that it becomes semi-transparent as it very briefly fades part-way out of existence before coming back solid again. Like someone's playing with its opacity slider.
It looks like it might be dangerous. But also would make a really SICK (as in cool but also possibly gruesome) video.
Hugo has two options:
OPTION A
Hugo's self-preservation instincts kick in. Maybe he's not qualified to deal with this. Maybe he should call in a professional or, like... someone who's already dead and has nothing left to lose.
He (and Molly) can go find Morty, though it takes them a long while. He's not in his room, but he can eventually be found on Floor 4 🌷 Grandma's Place psspsspss-ing at Droobles in an attempt to befriend the old ghost cat. (It's not working.)
Morty's happy to help and is able to pass through the elevator to get it started up again.
OPTION B
Hugo's seen enough action hero movies and feels confident in his ability to save the day. He descends down the shaft and looks very cool doing it. When he hits the top of the elevator, though, he finds it to be impenetrable. There's no hatch to open and help people out of.
The elevator blips out again and Hugo falls through, holding on only by his Flavourtown Industrial Strength Butcher's Twine. The twine can hold him, but it doesn't seem strong enough to withstand a whole elevator blipping back into reality through it. Neither does Hugo's mortal form, for that matter.
Just when things seem like they're about to get real fuckin' grim, the noise in the elevator shaft alerts Morty. He pokes his head directly through the door on the 4th floor, shouts "Oh fuck", and zoom up to grab Hugo and pull him out of harm's way just in time for the elevator to become solid again.
He kicks down the elevator door to the 4th floor and deposits Hugo safely in the hallway before flying up the elevator shaft to get the elevator moving again.

Which option does Hugo take?
